Life on Mars?

It's a god-awful small affair to the girl with the mousy hair but her mummy is yelling "No!", and her daddy has told her to go. But her friend is nowhere to be seen.

Now she walks through her sunken dream to the seat with the clearest view and she's hooked to the silver screen but the film is a saddening bore, for she's lived it ten times or more. She could spit in the eyes of fools as they ask her to focus on sailors fighting in the dance hall.  Oh man, look at those cavemen go. It's the freakiest show. Take a look at the lawman beating up the wrong guy. Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know he's in the best selling show. Is there life on Mars?

It's on America's tortured brow - that Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow. Now the workers have struck for fame because Lennon's on sale again. See the mice in their million hordes from Ibeza to the Norfolk Broads. Rule Britannia is out of bounds to my mother, my dog, and clowns.

But the film is a saddening bore because I wrote it ten times or more. It's about to be writ' again as I ask you to focus on sailors fighting in the dance hall. Oh man, look at those cavemen go. It's the freakiest show. Take a look at the lawman beating up the wrong guy. Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know he's in the best selling show. Is there life on Mars?

Irish blood, English heart

Irish blood, English heart, this I'm made of. There is no-one on earth I'm afraid of and no regime can buy or sell me. I've been dreaming of a time when to be English is not to be baneful, to be standing by the flag not feeling shameful, racist or partial.

Irish blood, English heart, this I'm made of. There is no-one on earth I'm afraid of and I will die with both my hands untied.  I've been dreaming of a time when the English are sick to death of Labour and Tories, and spit upon the name of Oliver Cromwell, and denounce this royal line that still salute him and will salute him forever.

Egalitarianism: a protean doctrine

In Greek mythology, Proteus (Πρωτεύς) is an early sea-god, one of several deities whom Homer calls the "Old Man of the Sea"[1], whose name suggests the "first", as protogonos (πρωτόγονος) is the "primordial" or the "firstborn". He became the son of Poseidon in the Olympian theogony (Odyssey iv. 432), or of Nereus and Doris, or of Oceanus and a Naiad, and was made the herdsman of Poseidon's seals, the great bull seal at the center of the harem.

Proteus can foretell the future, but will change his shape to avoid having to; he will answer only to someone who is capable of capturing him. From this feature of Proteus comes the adjective protean, with the general meaning of "versatile", "mutable", "capable of assuming many forms":

"Protean" has positive connotations of flexibility, versatility and adaptability.

The word is about there's something evolving

The word is about there's something evolving. Whatever may come the world keeps revolving. They say the next big thing is here - that the revolution's near.  But to me it seems quite clear that it's all just a little bit of history repeating.

The newspapers shout "a new style is growing". But it don't know if it's coming or going.  There is fashion, there is fad, some is good, some is bad, and the joke is rather sad - that its all just a little bit of history repeating and I've seen it before and I'll see it again. Yes, I've seen it before. Just little bits of history repeating.

Some people don't dance if they don't know who's singing. Why ask your head? - it's your hips that are swinging. Life's for us to enjoy - woman, man, girl and boy.  Feel the pain! Feel the joy! - and side step the little bits of history repeating.

Just little bits of history repeating. And I've seen it before. And I'll see it again. Yes I've seen it before. Just little bits of history repeating.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to the dull and ignorant, they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you will become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lessor persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world if full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself, especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in this noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.
